President Jacob Zuma regularly informs South Africa that God is with the ANC. President Trump has declared that God is with the USA. The Israeli’s claim God is with them and against the Palestinians and the Palestinians claim, they are the oppressed and God is with them. Both sides on the Syrian frontline claim God is with them and so it has been in every war since the start of human history.

What everyday people must ask, is, whose side does God choose if he really does choose?

Millennia ago, God told Prophet Isaiah to convey the following message to the Israelites:

“You may multiply your prayers; I shall not listen. Your hands are covered in blood, wash, make yourselves clean. Take your wrong doings out of my sight. Cease to do evil. Learn to do good, search for justice, help the oppressed, be just to the orphan, plead for the widow”.

Centuries later God told Muhammed the envoy to inform the people to believe in God, his angels, his revelations (Torah, Bible, Quran), his envoys (Abraham, Isaac, Ismail etc.) and judgement day.

Those who claim that God is with them better make sure that they abide by the principles that God demands. While anyone can claim to be a Jew, Christian or Muslim the test is in the action and result of that actions, not mere words.

Currently a few who kill innocents across the world claim they are doing so in the name of Islam. It is better that they read the warning God gave to Prophet Isaiah. Similarly, those (USA, Britain, Israel, France etc.) who drone attack wedding and funeral processions across the Middle East and kill with impunity must know that Jesus the messiah said “those who live by the sword die by the sword”.

It is vital to note that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Ismail, Jesus and Muhammed, does not require unwanted bloodshed or accrual of wealth. God is the creator of the heavens and the earth and does not need human sacrifices or temples, churches and mosques adorned with precious metals and jewels like the pagan practice of before.

Also when we pray and give charity it is to redeem our individual souls. God does not need anything but we humans must oblige for our own salvation. What God wants is the sustainability of social justice and righteous not misguided compassion. The rich must assist the poor and the wise must guide the feeble. Equally the poor must show gratitude and the words of the wise must be valued.

In the world today, the powerful enjoy subjugating the poor. The feeble-minded dictate to the wise and we call it democracy. Our empathy for criminals are misguided and disregarding and abuse of the elderly and orphaned is the norm.

When wickedness is considered a freedom of choice and human rights then those who are corrupt in mind and spirit can claim that God is with them and fail to see the irony and profanity in their words.
