The initiative to legalize street racing by Cllr JP Smith is a good idea and will save the City of Cape Town and the ratepayers money by refocusing law enforcement on drunk driving.
Instead of chasing those who waste money on new tires every month the traffic police can arrest more drunkards who are covert murderers in the making.
Every year thousands of people are seriously injured and killed which cost taxpayers billions in compensation. Those responsible for this road chaos often walk way scot-free while taxpayers provide rehabilitation and medical support to the thousands of Quadra and paraplegic victims.
For all our sakes, I hope the constant stealing of car tires has little to do with those who street race.
In the words of the wise, common sense is not always mutual or a shared practice.
