Often in the media the City of Cape Town and other metro’s are accused favouring developers above the interest of the surrounding community. The development of the horticultural zone in Schaapskraal is but one of many such accusations.
What must be investigated is the relationship between the developer and the Democratic Alliance or the relevant political party in authority. If it can be proven that the DA or ANC or so on, received monies from a developer, historically or in any way via a third party, then the matter can be reported to the Office of the Public Protector and so on.
Since the 2016 municipal election is upon us, this is the best time for the media to investigate the details. Some political parties will be spending hundreds of millions and this money is channelled outside the knowledge of the ordinary rate and taxpayer. If there is no link then innocence is a virtue
Voters must always know that knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.
Politics has always been the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other. Those who deal in these games must be exposed.
