• Arug – 21 AugustThe letter by Dr Bernhard Ficker “What is Muslim view on creation of man” 17August is important.

Firstly, Muslims are instructed by the Quran to accept the Torah and Bible as divine revelation. So there is no freedom of choice on that matter. However, the Quran was revealed to clarify and explain some errors that, in later centuries entered into the faiths of Judaism and Christianity. In modern terms it could be suggested that the Quran is an updated version of the Torah and Bible.

Two examples. Some people believe that they are God’s “Chosen people” because of lineage. The Quran explains that those who are “Chosen” are those who are connected to God, practice justice, are a benefit to humanity and so on. So the “Chosen” status is for anyone who is devout and not for a specific tribe or ethnicity. Also, the Quran explains that Jesus the son of Mary is a prophet of God just like Moses, Joseph, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Muhammed and that they were all humans.

Secondly, according to Muslim thought, Adam and Eve were created from the different colors of mud on earth. That is where the saying comes from “from dust to dust”. The colored mud explains the diverse muddy colors of the tribes and ethnicities etc. That is why racism is a crime in Islam as it questions the reality that all humans are descendant of Adam and Eve who were made from mud.

Adam and Eve also existed in human form in paradise until they made an error. Also, these detailed issues are not vital to Muslims since we are conditioned to “stay on message”. Example, what is our connection with the Creator, why are we on earth, how do we get back to heaven and avoid hell etc.

Also, what is vital in the Torah and the Bible is explained in the Quran. Example, the nature of the Creator. However, there are discrepancies, but the maximum of the Torah and Bible is accepted.
